Canada has a lot of nature to offer and much wildlife and untouched flora to discover. The Canadian nature is so spacious that it is hard to discover it by just walking. Fortunately the modern technique found a suitable answer for this problem - the ATV. An ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) is more or less a motorbike with four wheels, which is specially designed for tough deployment in rough terrain. The 4-wheel drive makes it suitable even for difficult passages. The latest invention produced even an automatic ATV, which makes it also convenient for beginners to become familiar with the vehicle. |
We choose the legendary gold-digger town Tete Jaune Cache in the north of British Columbia, 100 kilometre west of Jasper, for our adventure. The scenery here is really picturesque. Three mountains - Cariboo Mountains, Monashee Mountains and Rocky Mountains are all-pervasive and due to the low population the nature is generally unspoiled. In addition thanks to the interesting history there is a lot to discover. The town of Tete Jaune Cache experienced its summit as a gold-digger town a century ago and was serviced by the railway frequently. When the gold rush was over it became peaceful in the region and today just 3.500 people call the valley their home. |
To really discover something we decided for a guided tour. To suit the occasion we desired to spend the night in a log cabin and picked the Mica Mountain Lodge. Two wonderful log cabins with all the comforts of home are waiting here on the foot of Mica Mountain for their guests. Elke and Juergen, both originally from Germany, fulfilled here their dream of living surrounded by nature. Both cabins are located with plenty space in between to ensure undisturbed privacy in this picturesque spot. After spending a wonderful night and an unforgettable panorama during breakfast we met with Juergen to start the ATV tour. |
When we arrived the ATVs were already packed on the truck and ready for departure. Passing a beaver's lodge we drove to the starting point in the wilderness. Twenty minutes later we could unload the ATVs and learned the functionality by Juergen's explanation. A few minutes later we were ready to start and after driving some metres we became familiar with the machines. Surrounded by wonderful nature and marvellous scenery we drove easy-going on the trails deeper and deeper in the wilderness. We stopped several times at picturesque points to enjoy the beauty and to take some pictures. |
We have seen many interesting things during our tour, which we never would have discovered by going on ourselves. Secluded lakes, an old trapper's cabin, a dam out of times gone by, and a whole lot wildlife and flora. Certainly we were out to see a bear and we were lucky. At first we discovered a cinnamon bear, a black bear with a fur of cinnamon colour, that we could observe quite a time. Two additional black bears should crown our unique adventure later. |
This adventure certainly will be in our memories forever and we are keen to come back soon as there is a whole lot left for discovery. Furthermore Tete Jaune Cache is an excellent starting point for recreational activities of all kind. We were specially pleased by the excellent hospitality of Elke and Juergen from the Mica Mountain Lodge. |
